It's Exhausting To Be This Charming All The Time

I’m doing well, yes, I really am There ain’t no cause for concern I lived through the worst on a Second chance on a second chance Lord, it sure ain’t the first Crossing the river But the bridge was on fire And I’m the one who set it to burn What comes around goes around A lesson I’m still trying to learn I’m always looking for a safer place to land Finally learned that solid ground’s a better place to stand I’m lonely and I’m tired and my license has expired again I want for nothing, but this wasn’t what I planned Back in the day when we got along It was plain that we both wanted more Like the night in Memphis, only Graceland to protect us Broke the only oath we ever swore It’s a long drive when you’ve got somewhere to go Where you’ve got someone you’re trying to be But I’m reading all the signage and I’m getting good mileage You know I’ll make it eventually. I’m always looking for a safer place to land Finally learned that solid ground’s a better place to stand I’m lonely and I’m tired and my license has expired again I want for nothing, but this wasn’t what I planned I want for nothing, but this wasn’t what I planned

You gotta let it go when there’s nothing left to hold Love will turn to ice if it’s left out in the cold No surprises in the story, no mysteries to unfold It’s like the ashes of a fire left to burn out on its own Just a spark hot enough it should have grown But there’s nothing there to reap if there’s nothing left to sow This is me moving on, this is me watching in the rearview It’s not a place where I belong, and there’s a future I can drive to I’ve heard all along every love is just the same And to play about with romance like it’s just a little game But it’s hard to see the picture when you’re fucking with the frame It’s seems complicated when our hearts get involve But love is not a puzzle or a problem that we solve It’s the honest kind of scar that nothing can dissolve This is me moving on, this is me watching in the rearview It’s not a place where I belong, and there’s a future I can drive to

Darling, it’s a hard line To be all alone Looking out to find Someplace to call your own What you’re seeing from the outside It looks easy, I bet But you ain’t had to live with What you’ll have to live with, yet I don’t see the upside Of trying to go it all alone I don’t see the upside Living in a world this cold Darling, it’s a fact, now And not just something I read You need a hearth and home And someone to share your bed And what you’re seeing with a closed mind It’s time to make a new start A path to light the dark Even in your heart of hearts I don’t see the upside Of trying to go it all alone I don’t see the upside Living in a world this cold

You’re gonna look around And find a faster way to make a change You’re gonna focus now Until the feeling doesn’t seem so strange You’re uptight and broke down What you even doing here? You hold fast to the old sound Even when you’re shifting gears It’s getting warm in a cold town And nothing’s gonna be the same You’re gonna make your move And take advantage of what could have been You’re gonna speak your truth Until it burns you like a mortal sin You’re uptight and broke down What you even doing here? You hold fast to the old sound Even when you’re shifting gears It’s getting warm in a cold town And nothing’s gonna be the same When all the dust has settled You’re a new man in an old skin You opened up your baby blues To see the world as it is As much breathing out as breathing in You’re uptight and broke down What you even doing here? You hold fast to the old sound Even when you’re shifting gears It’s getting warm in a cold town And nothing’s gonna be the same

Bring me back Oh, bring me back my darling She’s gone away She’s gone away I fear for good She left me on my lonesome don’t know what to do How to keep love from leaving I don’t have a clue Bring me back Oh, bring me back my darling She’s the one She’s the one I’ve been dreaming of It’s been so long since I seen her will I ever learn It’s my fault that she’s left me All alone to burn Bring me back Oh, bring me back my darling She’s gone away She’s gone away I fear for good Made mistakes and didn’t treat her like I knew I should My cruel words didn’t suit her like they ever could
